X-ray is a form of electronic radiation similar to light and radio waves. X-rays are passed through the different parts of the body, allowing varying amounts of radiation to produce an image. This image crated by X-rays will appear in the photographic film or in the monitor for the evaluation of the radiologist.
Are X-rays safe?
As with other medical procedures, X-rays are safe when used with care. Our radiologist and X-ray technologists have been trained to use the minimum amount of radiation necessary to obtain the needed results. The amount of radiation used in most examinations is very small and the benefits greatly outweigh the risk of harm.

Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system and high contrast, high-resolution film for examination of the breast. Successful treatment of breast cancer depends on early diagnosis. Mammography plays a central part in early detection of breast cancer.

CANCER is a major global problem and this disease ranks third as cause of death in the country. Cancer management and prevention has been a priority and involves a multi-disciplinary approach. The key players are the patient, primary physician, surgeons, the oncologist (medical oncologist, gynecologic oncologist, pediatric oncologist, radiation oncologist and surgical oncologist) and nurses.
In the past, patients have been managed as in-patient for radiation. It added costs for the patients and unnecessary use of the hospital beds for treatment alone that can be given easily on an out-patient basis. This is the main reason why the St. Peregrine Radiation Unit of San Juan de Dios Hospital has been established.
In SJDEFI-Hospital, with the assistance of our qualified technologist, our medical physicist works hand-in-hand with the consultant to achieve the treatment goals of the therapy.
