Last August 1 to 7, 2014, the breastfeeding and lactation committee of San Juan De Dios Educational Foundation Inc. (Hospital) spearheaded the celebration of the World Breastfeeding Awareness Week. With a theme entitled "Breastfeeding: The Best Thing for A Health Little Being", the committee created activities that would intensify the knowledge and reinforce breastfeeding practices to all mothers and expectant mothers in the hospital and in the communities. Such activities are logo making contest and mother's class.

The World Breastfeeding Week is being celebrated by more than 170 countries every year from August 1 to 7. The campaign is done annually to continue encouraging mothers to breastfeed and improve the health of babies around the world. (WHO, 2014)

Breastfeeding is the best way to provide infants the nutrients they need and is proven effective to ensure child health and survival. WHO also recommends exclusive breastfeeding starting within one hour after birth until the baby is six months old.

In compliance with E.O. 51, otherwise known as "The Milk Code", all employees work hand-in-hand in promoting breast milk subscribing that it is still the single and most powerful formula for babies. Thus, we are proud that SJDEFI adheres 100% to this mandate.

The Physical Rehabilitation and Sport Medicine Section (PRSMS), in partnership with Pfizer Inc., celebrated the "Disability Week" last July 12, 2014 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The Free medical consultation, peripheral bone scan test, starter dose and physical occupational therapy were part of the celebration. This is an annual event of PRSMS to show their concern to all the PWDs and hearing their stories and their motivation to move forward and continue engaging themselves with worthy activities show that disability is not a hindrance to person's development and zest for life!!!

June 30, 2014 was a red-letter day for San Juan de Dios Educational Foundation, Inc. (Hospital) for it was the day when the National Quality Assurance awarded the ISO Certificates for ISO 9001:2008 (Quality Management System) ; ISO 14001: 2004 (Environmental Management System) and OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational Health and Safety Management System) to the Hospital in a simple ceremony held at the Zulueta Function Hall, Fray Juan Clemente Holistic Center by Mr. Rannie Bernardino, the NQA General Manager.

The awarding rites was attended by SJDEFI's Top Officers and Management Team led by the President- Sister Josie Onag, DC; Vice-President for Health Services/Management Representative- Sister Normita L. Guevara, DC; Finance Director- Sister Phoebe Capangyarihan, DC; Dra. Mirla Severino, Medical Director; Ms. Gilda Cirila Ramos- Quality Assurance Director/Deputy Management Representative and all other Division Directors with their Unit Head and Supervisors and the Department Chairmen and Chief Residents of the Medical Service Division.

This is another landmark achievement by all the employees and officers of SJDEFI-Hospital Community and an added milestone for the Hospital in its quest for continual improvement and sustaining the challenges of being an ISO certified healthcare service provider.

Once again, it is proven that anything done collectively and as a team will reap its success.
