SJDEFI-Hospital celebrates,National HEALTHCARE WORKERS' DAY
Led by Sister Ma. Linda Monzon, DC, VP for Health Services in collaboration with the organizing committees, the Human Resource Division, Health Unit and Administration, SJDEFI-Hospital celebrated the "National Healthcare Workers' Day" last May 6, 2016 in a simple rite, but fully loaded activities to recognize the efforts and services of all its health care workers.
This year's celebration has the theme: "SJDEFI: Appreciating the Health Workers' Work of Mercy and Compassion"
The following activities were undertaken which added color and joy to the celebration:
The highlight of the day was the Eucharistic celebration as presided by Fr. Jay-Jay Bautista where he mentioned the difficulties entailed on the daily tasks of the healthcare workers and what it makes it different from among other jobs, because healthcare workers have to see Jesus in the patients with all their pains, sufferings and endurance of their afflictions. Also, Fr. Jay-Jay stressed to all healthcare workers that there is reason why they were employed in the Hospital and challenged them to continue to be committed and show the compassionate quality care to all patients which sets apart SJDEFI-Hospital healthcare workers from among others.

Theme: One San Juan de Dios: The Visible Mercy and Affective Love of God
To give honor and to continue the beautiful tradition of honoring St. John of God - the Patron Saint of the Sick, the Hospital Workers, San Juan de Dios Educational, Inc. (SJDEFI) celebrated its 438th Founding Anniversary. Various activities were held for a week and culminated last March 8, 2016 as follows:
March 1 to 5, 2016 - MEDICAL MISSION spearheaded by the Medical Service Division through the Departments of Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics and OB-Gynecology, Dental and Physical Rehab Free Clinic.
March 3,4,7, 2016 - TRIDUUM MASSES sponsored by the different divisions of the Hospital and College departments. Members of the SJDEFI Board of Trustees, namely: Rev. Fr. Cesar V. Buhat, Rev. Fr. Domingo G. Asuncion and Rev. Fr. Cielito Almazan, OFM (represented by Fr. Dexter Toledo, OFM) officiated the Triduum Masses in honor of St. John of God.
March 5, 2016 - OUTREACH Program - Both the Hospital and College of SJDEFI joined together for the Outreach activity at Bahay San Rafael Orphanage at San Ricardo Pampuri Center, Brgy. Salabanm Amadeo, Cavite.
March 8, 2016 - Solemnity of San Juan de Dios
The day started with the Zumba exercises, Raffle draw, flower and plant offering to the century old image of San Juan de Dios installed at the Hospital facade.
The highlight of the event was the Eucharistic Celebration that was presided by Rev. Msgr. Jose Clemente F. Ignacio - Vice-chairman of the SJDEFI Board of Trustees, Rev. Fr. Jaime A. Bautista as the Homilist and Fr. Gerald Reyes as co-celebrant.
The Annual Recognition and Awarding Ceremony for Consultants and Employees was held in the afternoon. Consultants and Employees were given the recognition for Punctuality, Longevity and the CORE Values Award.
March 9, 2016 - Basketball Sportsfest was launched at the Sanguian Gym, Fray Juan Clemente Holistic Health Center. This was participated in by male employees of both the Hospital and College.
Sponsoring divisions for this year's celebration were the Finance Services, Quality Assurance, Human Resource and Administration.
To all who participated and contributed their gifts of talent, resources and time, thank you very much and for sure, St. John of God is so happy looking up in heaven for all the efforts as SJDEFI collectively worked for the greater glory of God!

San Juan de Dios Educational Foundation, Inc. - Hospital recently acquired a DXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) machine which measures Bone Density. This is a special test to assess if an individual has osteoporosis (thinning of the bone) that can lead to bone fractures.
This is an added innovation of SJDEFI-Hospital in its quest to give quality service as well as responding to the present significant health needs among its stakeholders in particular and to the community in general.
The Unit is named in honor of Pope Francis.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of (SJDEFI), His Eminence Luis Cardinal G. Tagle, D.D. officiated the blessing of the new machine last February 8, 2016.
The DXA Machine is located at the Ground Floor, Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Section (PRSMS).

Last January 29, 2016, the 35th Residents' Graduation was held at the Hospital Chapel. These Residents completed their Residency Specialty training at SJDEFI-Hospital.
The activity started with the celebration of the Holy Mass presided by Rev. Fr. Gerald I. Reyes, the Hospital Chaplain who himself is also an Internal Medicine Specialist.
Parents and family members of the Graduates, friends and Consultants, and Administration of SJDEFI-Hospital were also present to grace the affair.
It was a touching Inspirational Message when Dra. Mirla Severino, the Medical Director asked the graduating Residents to first thank their parents and family, followed by their going to their Department Chairman, Training Officer and co-Residents to give their appreciation for all the years that they have been together. And this, Dra Severino stressed is the SJDEFI-Hospital difference- we value each other!
The presentation of Graduates was headed by the Department Chairman and the awarding of certificates was led by the Vice President for Health Services- Sister Ma. Linda R. Monzon, D.C. together with the Medical Director- Mirla M. Severino, M.D. and Assistant Medical Director- Camilo C. Roa, Jr., M.D.
The Graduates as presented by the different Department Chair:
Acceptance of Graduates and Endorsement to the Hospital Administration was spearheaded by Dr. Camilo Roa, the Assistant Medical Director.
Response of the Graduates was delivered by Dr. Grace R. Sanchez of Pediatrics and the Hippocratic Oath was once again led by Dr. Camilo Roa.
Sister Ma. Linda R. Monzon, giving her Closing Remarks thanked all the Residents-Graduates for choosing San Juan de Dios Hospital in their training and with the hope that SJDEFI has greatly left a mark in their formation as persons and future Medical Doctors.
Susan M. Andong, M.D. acted as the Master of Ceremonies.
